This self-contained sample database demonstrates the use of ADO persisted recordsets in Access 2000. Switchboard choices allow the user to persist a recordset from a pre-built query in either table or XML format, to display and edit that recordset in a form, and to update the underlying table from that recordset. Because forms bound to a Jet provider-based ADO recordset are not normally updateable, I've used an unbound form to permit the user to view and edit the recordset.
Since persisted recordsets are "portable", they can be exchanged between machines and even applications. The only caveat is that to sync the recordset back to a table requires a table with the exact structure the recordset was built on. This works just as well with SQL Server or any other OLE DB compliant database as it does with Access/Jet. Download Access 2000: uploads/13/PersistedRST.zip |
