Can anyone help me with a subform update problem?

I have a subform 'sbfNavigation' which I use a bunch of buttons.  This form acts as a navigation pane on the side.  I change the captions of the buttons to match the main form.  However, when I have more than one main form open, the buttons show only the first form's captions.

Is there a way to keep multiple forms open with the same subform, while having a different view of that subform?

I have tried refreshing the form during different events (load, activate, etc.)
